How do I get to the Metropolitan Museum of Art?
Subway: Take the uptown train to the 77th Street stop and walk a few blocks northwest to the museum, or the, trains to the 86th Street stop and walk a few blocks southwest to the museum. Bus: Take the northbound M1, M2, M3, M4 or M5 (located on Madison Avenue) to 82nd Street.
What subway goes to Metropolitan Museum of Art?
The nearest subway stations are on Lexington Avenue, three blocks east of Fifth Avenue, at 77th Street (#6 train) and 86th Street (#4, 5 and 6 trains). Northbound buses from midtown run on Madison Avenue, one block east of the museum. Southbound buses to midtown run on Fifth Avenue, directly in front of the museum.
Is Metropolitan Museum of Art free?
$25 for adults; $17 for seniors; $12 for students. Free for Members, Patrons, and children under 12. To purchase general admission tickets in advance, choose one of the The Met locations. Admission is free for a caregiver accompanying a visitor with a disability.
Is the Met still pay what you wish?
If you wish to pay less than the general admission ticket prices, you may purchase your ticket at one of The Met’s locations with a valid ID. We suggest the following general admission ticket prices: $25 for adults, $17 for seniors, and $12 for students, but you may pay what you wish.
How long does it take to walk through the Met?
You’ll probably need 3-5 hours just to see the permanent collection, so take advantage of the many resting spots – found in just about every room – which can give your feet a break and let you take in the surrounding atmosphere.
Does the Met have a dress code?
There is no dress code at the Met, but a night at the opera can be a great excuse to get dressed up.
Is the Met uptown or downtown?
Opened in 1938, the Met Cloisters is the uptown branch of the Met Museum, located in Fort Tryon Park and presenting medieval European works of art in a building designed to evoke a medieval cloister.
What day is the Metropolitan Museum of Art closed?

Can I bring a backpack into the Met?
Visitors cannot bypass the security line outside the Museum. Small backpacks may be brought into the galleries if they are worn on your front or side. We encourage visitors to bring water in plastic and secure bottles into the Museum. Weapons and hazardous materials are not permitted in the Museum.
Which museum is better MoMA or met?
Both institutions are world-class museums that any art or culture lover should definitely visit at least once in their lives, but they have important differences, too. The Met is larger by far, with more gallery space and larger collections. The MoMA specializes in modern and contemporary art.

Can you buy a ticket to the Met Gala?
It’s also the fashion world’s hottest social event, so don’t think just anyone can buy a ticket just because it’s a charity event. The guest list, since 1995, has been carefully presided over by Vogue editor Anna Wintour and her team.
